ISC West: International Security Conference & Exposition

Q: You and some other DH Pace team members recently attended ISC West in Las Vegas. Can you share a brief overview of what the event is about?

A: It is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) security convention in the industry. People from all over North America come to Las Vegas to see their contacts face-to-face and to see everything new that is being released during the event. It is a great time for us to visit with our manufacturing partners. It’s also an opportunity to have representatives from multiple DH Pace offices sit in on meetings together.

Q: Why is it important to attend industry events like ISC West?

A: One reason is that it is important for networking. You get a chance to meet one-on-one with national leaders of our manufacturing partners. Also, you get to discuss trends that you are seeing and hear about trends that others are experiencing.
Another reason is that it is very important to see all the new products and services that are now available. Manufacturers like to announce new products and demonstrate them to industry professionals. You have to evolve if you want to stay current and relevant in the industry.

Q: Which training sessions and exhibits did you attend?

A: We were really interested in all the advances in the hosting security as a service solution since last year. This year, we visited with multiple companies that have a solution to this. It gives us a good opportunity to see the good, the bad and the just OK pieces of their individual solutions. Also, we got some demos on a few new electronic security products and a couple of new computer technology solutions that address specific problems.

Q: What did you like most about the event?

A: It is always great to be able to talk with employees from other DH Pace offices. We don’t get to do that a lot, so it is always nice to have those ‘shop talk’ conversations. I always walk away with a couple of nuggets of wisdom that will help me in the next year. As well, we get to have meetings with our manufacturing partners to see what is new and what is forthcoming in the future. The food is great too!

Q: In terms of innovation in the security industry, what was the most exciting thing you saw there?

A: The most exciting thing is really seeing how technology is evolving. How the extraordinary from a couple of years ago is now commonplace. Things that seemed like computer voodoo a couple of years ago are now done by everybody and it seems like we have always been using them. You see that everything is becoming more automated and working quicker that it has in the past.
